01/17/2012 -
San Diego, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Diego Padres agreed to one-year
contracts with nine arbitration eligible players on Tuesday, including
offseason acquisitions Edinson Volquez and Carlos Quentin.
Catcher Nick Hundley and infielder Chase Headley also agreed to contracts for
the 2012 season, along with pitchers Luke Gregerson, Tim Stauffer and Joe
Thatcher, outfielder Will Venable and catcher John Baker.
Volquez, a 28-year-old righty hurler, was acquired in a five-player trade
which sent Mat Latos to Cincinnati. He rose to prominence in 2008, going 17-6
with a 3.21 ERA in his first year with the Reds. Last season, he went 5-7 with
a 5.71 ERA.
Quentin, a two-time All-Star and former Silver Slugger Award winner, was
acquired from the White Sox in exchange for pitchers Simon Castro and Pedro
Hernandez. The 29-year-old catcher has belted at least 21 home runs in each of
the last four seasons. In 2011, he batted .254 with 24 home runs, a career-
high 31 doubles and 77 RBI in 118 games.
Hundley, 28, hit a career-high .288 with nine home runs, 29 RBI and 34 runs
scored in 82 games for the Padres last season. He batted .367 over the final
37 games of 2011 after returning from right elbow surgery in early August.
Headley, 27, posted a career-best .289 average in 113 games for the Padres
last season. The switch-hitter added 44 RBI and 43 runs scored and hit .352
against lefties -- the second-highest mark among qualifying NL players.
Gregerson went 3-3 with a career-best 2.75 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 61 relief
appearances for the Padres a season ago. The 27-year-old righty has 216
strikeouts against 68 walks in 213 career relief appearances -- all with the
Padres.
Stauffer, also a righty, went 9-12 with a 3.73 ERA in a career-high 31 starts
with San Diego in 2011. The 29-year-old was the Padres' opening day starter
last season.
Thatcher, a 30-year-old lefty reliever, appeared in just 18 games for the
Padres last year after undergoing shoulder surgery in May. He has posted a 4-6
record with a 3.36 ERA in 182 career relief appearances over parts of five
seasons with the Padres.
Venable, 29, hit .246 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 121 games with the
Padres last season -- his fourth with the club.
Baker, who turns 31 on January 20, was acquired from the Marlins this
offseason in exchange for pitcher Wade LeBlanc. The career .271 hitter missed
most of the 2011 campaign due to surgery on his right elbow.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.
Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.
Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.
Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
