Orioles sign Wilson Betemit

Baltimore, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Baltimore Orioles have signed infielder
Wilson Betemit to a two-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal includes a vesting option for
2014.
Betemit split the 2011 season with Kansas City and Detroit, and batted a
combined .285 with eight homers and 46 runs batted in over 97 games. The 30-
year-old switch-hitter batted .303 in 263 plate appearances from the left
side.
In nine seasons with the Braves, Dodgers, Yankees, White Sox, Royals and
Tigers, the Dominican native has a career average of .269 with 63 homers and
243 runs batted in.
The Orioles cleared room on the 40-man roster by designating pitcher Rick
Vandenhurk for assignment. The 26-year-old right-hander had an earned run
average of 8.00 in four games for the Orioles last season and was 9-13 with a
4.43 ERA in 26 starts at Triple-A Norfolk.
