Kentucky keeps top spot in men's hoops poll

New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kentucky remained the top team in the latest
Associated Press men's college basketball poll.
The Wildcats moved back to the top last week after Syracuse's six-week run
came to a close. Kentucky, which first had a two-week stay at No. 1 starting
in late November, received 63 first-place votes -- two more than last week --
and a total of 1,623 points from a nationwide media panel.
Syracuse moved up one spot from third and earned the remaining two first-place
votes. Ohio State, Missouri and North Carolina round out this week's top five.
Missouri was second last week and dropped two spots after a loss at Oklahoma
State, while North Carolina moved up two spots from seventh.
Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Michigan State and unbeaten Murray State complete this
week's top 10. Murray State moved up one spot and is among the top 10 for the
first time in school history.
The second 10 consists of UNLV, Florida, Creighton, Georgetown, Marquette,
Virginia, San Diego State, Saint Mary's, Wisconsin and Indiana. Georgetown
tumbled five spots from ninth after a 72-60 loss at Pittsburgh on Saturday,
while Wisconsin vaulted six places from 25th after beating Indiana last week
for its fifth straight win.
Florida State, Mississippi State, Michigan, Gonzaga and Vanderbilt are the
last five teams ranked. Gonzaga is back after a two-week absence, while
Vanderbilt started the season at No. 7 and dropped out in December after a 6-4
start. The Commodores have won 10 of 11 since, the only loss a 78-77 overtime
setback to Mississippi State on January 21.
Kansas State and Connecticut dropped out this week. The Wildcats had been
ranked for four straight weeks and were 22nd last week before a 63-60 home
loss to Oklahoma. UConn was a preseason No. 4 in the wake of its 2011 national
championship, but has lost three in a row.
This week's schedule features a number of ranked matchups, starting Wednesday
with a Big Ten tussle between Indiana and Michigan in Ann Arbor. On Saturday,
Missouri welcomes Kansas, Ohio State travels to Wisconsin, Vanderbilt visits
Florida and Florida State hosts Virginia. Michigan and Michigan State tangle
on Sunday in East Lansing.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
